Cutler NAA

One of the most powerful radio stations in the would occupies an entire peninsula off the coast of Maine in the little town of Curler.  Built in the early sixties Navy Radio Station NAA Cutler operates with up to 5,000,000 watts of power to communicate with USN submarines while they are submerged.  Compare that power with the highest power allowed AM radio stations in the us: 50,000 watts!

Not only is the power incredibly high but the station uses two massive antenna systems supported by dozens of towers, some over 1,000 feet tall!

Massive insulator.

Just a few of the tall support towers.

Wide angle shot.

This is just one of the two antennas.

Anti-ice counterweight.
