I`ve lived in Springfield all my life and still do not know what was produced at Chapman Valve during the 1940s and 1950s. I`ve read stories about uranium rods. What did they do with all the metal chips? Bury them?

I was with the 24th Missile Battalion Fort Banks Ma.1955=56 as electronic internal guidance tech. Actually we had a small group of techs that were barracked in Belmont Mass. Our job every day was to visit sites in the area for maintenance and repair of the missiles guidance component. If it was a major repair we would remove the guidance unit and truck it to Fort Devens for replacement. Sites we most frequently serviced were Nahant, Needham, Dedham. Banks was for administration activities. Had some great team members Ray Whalen (from Brockton) john Madden Oscar Phillips. Ray was a crack electronic tech repairmen.
