Northfield Mtn

The Cold War role, if any, of the utility-owned pumped storage hydro-electric facility at Northfield Mountain in Western, MA, is unknown.  The fact that the underground facility would serve very well as a hardened continuity of government (COG) site is apparent.  Similar privately owned underground facilities had partnered with local and state government during the Cold War to provide COG space.  At the very least the space could have served as a VIP fallout shelter for utility company big wigs or as a secure records storage facility for the company.
