Otis AFB

The Seaward Extension Shore Station (SESS) Transmitter and Receiver sites are at Otis AFB.  This pair of HF radio sites was one of two locations on the East Coast used to communicate with the U.S. Navy's Picket Ships which operated air-defense radar for ADC / NORAD.  (Two SESS locations were on the West Coast, too.)  The eight Navy Picket Ships on the East Coast were homeported at Davisville, RI.

Otis AFB Memories:

Arnie Chihak
I was stationed at Otis at the 26th for 3 years, from 1962 to 1965. First time I ever saw a missile and first time associated with nukes. Great experience and nice folks on the Cape.
